sweet

When Melissa asked me to take pics of her daughter’s Sweet 16 birthday party on Saturday, I was both nervous and excited.  Unfortunately, just as the party was starting, it poured buckets of rain.  Being that it was an outdoor venue…and being that I’m a natural light photographer…….it was disappointing in that I never got to take any pictures of the real party.  Due to the rain delay, darkness descended before the party started.  What you see here is snippets of beautifully dressed girls and hansomely dressed guys milling around waiting for the party to start.  It’s not my best work, because it was dark and rainy and good light was hard to come by…….I just wish I could have captured more of the beauty here!  But isn’t Cristina adorable?

Stacey - Lovely pictures! I need to know how you disappear enough to take the candid shots and get them to respond for some as well. I always feel so obvious when trying to take pictures. LOL

Kristin - She is beautiful! What a fun time to get to share with family.

debi - Stacey,
I am the queen of candid !
That is my total comfort zone….I’m a little timid to stop the “party” and ask for a shot….I feel like I’m bothering people by asking them to “pose.” But, truthfully, most people love having their picture taken and are well rehearsed in the posed shot.
I love the photo journalistic approach, because I feel it captures the true essence of the personalities.
I just jump in with my camera and start snapping away with people fairly unaware that I’m taking their pic and once in a while I get the group or person’s attention by walking up and just using my hands to show them I want them to freeze and look at my lens. Having a long lens helps with the candid shots, as you can stand at a distance and not feel so intrusive :)

debi - Kristin…
I totally agree!

Leah - Like I said… you always pull something beautiful out! ;D Love you, Mia!

debi - ah Leah….you always encourage me :)
miss you….

Stacey - I am long in returning, but thank you!
